Dress Code Policy
Dress code is important for teaching the dancers how to present themselves professionally in any dance setting and allowing the teachers to see the dancer’s muscles working for technique and safety purposes. At Inspired Movement we have a three strikes policy for dress code. After each incident parents and student will be informed of what the correct dress code is, and if a fourth violation occurs a student may be asked to sit out of class until they have obtained the correct attire. (New students trialing a class will not have a strike counted against them.)
For students who are trying out a class, we ask that they adhere to the class dress codes as closely as possible, however purchase of new clothing is not expected for a trial class. Students should wear clothing that allows for fluidity of motion, is solid colored, and is without embellishments or material that may snag/inhibit movement. Ballet/tap shoes are available to borrow if needed depending on dancers shoe size - other footwear may include socks, barefoot, or tennis shoes depending on the style.
Trialing a Class
Female – Solid colored leotard, pink ballet tights, and pink ballet shoes (or tights/shoes that match a student's skin tone). Skirts are allowed only if they are attached to the leotard. Hair should be pulled up and away from the face.
Male - Solid colored t-shirt/tank top, athletic shorts or pants, black or white ballet shoes.
Creative Movement/Pre Ballet
Female - Solid colored leotard with tights or fitted t-shirt with black dance shorts, or black leggings.
Male - Solid colored fitted t-shirt (no logos) with solid colored athletic shorts or pants.
Ballet 1-4 and Pointe
Female - Solid colored leotard with tights or fitted t-shirt with black dance shorts, or black leggings, pink or brown contemporary turners (with strap around back of heel) based on the dancer’s skin tone.
Male - Solid colored fitted t-shirt (no logos), solid colored athletic shorts or pants, pink or brown contemporary turners (with strap around back of heel) based on the dancer’s skin tone.
Contemporary
Female - Solid colored leotard, pink or brown ballet tights based on the dancer’s skin tone, and pink or brown ballet shoes to match the tights. A neat fitting ballet skirt or black dance shorts are optional. Hair that is long enough must be put in a bun.
Male - Solid colored fitted t-shirt (no logos), men’s ballet tights or black athletic shorts/leggings, black or white ballet shoes. Men over the age of 11 must wear a dance belt.
Modern
Female - Solid colored leotard with tights, jazz pants, black dance shorts, or black leggings, tan (and black for advanced placed dancers) jazz shoes without laces.
Male - Solid colored fitted t-shirt (no logos), solid colored athletic shorts/pants or jazz pants, tan (and black for advanced placed dancers) jazz shoes without laces.
Jazz
Female - Solid colored leotard with tights or fitted t-shirt with black dance shorts, or black leggings, black tap shoes. Dancers may want socks as well for a more snug fit in their shoes.
Male - Solid colored fitted t-shirt (no logos), solid colored athletic shorts or pants, black tap shoes. Dancers may want socks as well for a more snug fit in their shoes.
Tap
Dancers must wear closed toed shoes such as sneakers or combat boots. Shoes must be clean and used solely for class (Should NOT be worn outdoors). Clothing can be anything comfortable that allows freedom of movement. Crop tops, off the shoulder tops, or shirts that are slit down the side and show undergarments are not allowed. Pants should be well-fitted and should not allow for undergarments to be visible.
Hip-Hop
Dancers may wear whatever comfortable clothing they would prefer. Ballet shoes are preferred, but socks or bare feet are permissible.
